Design
Art, Design, Color Theory, and Spacial Planning are all influenced by the discovery of interesting patterns, shapes, and palettes that inspire new ways to create every day.
I loved puzzles of all kinds as a child. I still do. Figuring out how things fit together, taking them apart, and then re-imagining them in a new way was a common occurrence for me that carries through today.
Studying theater in college I focused on set design and drafting, costume design and prop building over monologues and soliloquies. These skills taught me about color, depth, layering, and what combination creates a final aesthetic. Early in my design career I learned that the big picture contains a well defined series of vignettes with each element seamlessly integrating to create the final aesthetic. Finding those "moments" of comfort, style, and taste were the key to a successful design plan.
My design career began planning live events in a time when the trend was bringing the outside in and the inside out, in a variety of locations, for an eclectic group of clients. Working with these unique opportunities opened my eyes to infinite possibilities using avant garde tools and textiles to create color and flow.
Early work with floral design and creating custom art/event spaces led to an event profile in InStyle Magazine and an Emmy special redesign of the Mondrian Hotel Skybar for HGTV. This paved the way for the creation of B and B Design, a shop focused on interior and exterior spaces in Southern California. B and B not only worked with clientele to design their homes but also continued to create unique event spaces as well as appearing for several years as part of the HGTV team on Designer's Challenge. As my career developed so did the ways I use my design skills. Now, creating art pieces, designing jewelry, and furniture pieces, accompanies my continued work with interior design and space planning. These practices are the foundation that helps to shape my work with experiential design in the marketing space. As disciplines blur in this modern, marketing world I champion (and celebrate!) the opportunity to integrate platforms and build more unique user experiences, creating endless opportunity for exploration.
Final thought on "think outside the box"
I'm not sure there is a box but if there is; know that I'll identify it, not be defined by it, and I'll design the hell out of it, inside and out.
